Here's what to expect
-
The Eye Exam
- Have a conversation to learn about your eyes and blood sugar control
- Visual Acuity Test to access your vision and ability to see in the distance and up close.
- Refraction & Retinoscopy Test to check for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or presbyopia.
- Eye Health Evaluation to assess for cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma and other eye conditions.
- Intra-Ocular Pressure checks for risks of glaucoma.
- Pupil and Eye Movement Assessments to check how well your eyes are focusing together.
At the end of your exam, a report will be emailed to you for record to give to you diabetic care team.
-
Dilated Fundus Exam
At Optiplex, we like to be minimally invasive as possible. Occasionally we will require you to have a dilated exam if we cannot see the back of your eyes cleaerly due to small pupils.
This means we will put a drop of medication (Tropicamide) in both your eyes. The drop will take around 20min to work and dilation last for 4-6 hours.
If a drop is needed, Dr. Lam will let you know to prepare for time, sunglasses and someone to drive you. Most patients can drive afterwards, however the sun glare may affect you. -
